Did You Know?
Did you know that different parts of your brain either support you acting on your future or keep you from acting? In essence, your brain is in conflict with itself – part of it wants you to change, to grow, to develop while the other part requires that you retain the status quo and remain in your comfort zone.
The pre-frontal cortex (“PFC”) in the brain offers you the ability to envision a compelling future for yourself and your business. The PFC is that part of the brain that allows you to create, and to act upon a vision of the future. However, there is also a part of your brain that tries to maintain everything as-is. Part of the limbic system in your brain seeks to avoid risk and danger – in other words change. What this means is there is a neurological reason when you find yourself stuck in old habits, seemingly unwilling to change.
But don’t panic the parts of the brain that we use frequently actually grow, and the parts that we don’t use so much shrink and this has been the focus of much work completed by Dr Joe Dispenza. You can enhance the power of your PFC simply by using it! You can learn to quiet the limbic system when it tries to keep you from acting. In fact, the neurons that you use to create your vision are the very same ones that fire when you act on your vision. Simply by creating and nurturing your vision, you are setting yourself up for success!
That’s why it’s imperative for SME owners to have a clear vision for their company that is driven from their personal objectives in life, otherwise what’s the point – right! When the going gets tough and your plan is taking a few knocks it will be this connection that ultimately provides the motivation to dig in and move forward.
Much of our work involves supporting clients not only creating their vision but then offering them alternative approaches and business knowledge to grow and a clear process to implement that helps them overcome any conflicts their brain may throw up 😊.
